Logistics Expansion

A Midlands based logistics company wanted to increase the floor space of their facility and turned to Teccon to install a two-tier mezzanine floor along (approx 3300m²) with a single tier office mezzanine floor (100m²)

Problem

To accommodate the increase in business Teccon was required to install a mezzanine floor. The real challenge was that:

• The mezzanine floor was built over 11 dock doors
• Everyday business had to still continue while the mezzanine floor and other trades were installed

Requirement

It was decided to install a two tier mezzanine floor and a single tier mezzanine floor totalling over 3300m². In addition to the mezzanine floor Teccon were responsible for the efficient and safe installation of all other services including ducting, fresh air electrics, cat 6 data, fire rating, offices toilets, kitchen facilities and carpeting.

Before all this could happen core samples were required from the concrete slab for strength and stability and then detail plans were submitted for building regs approval. It then came to light that the mezzanine floor would require piling as loads of more than 460kn were imposed due to the column grid of the mezzanine floor being more than 8m spans

Solution

Due to very tight deadlines, channels of communication were short and direct to senior level with decision maker contact established to ensure that any issues raised were treated and dealt with in an efficient manner.

The whole project from initial order to completion was less than 16 weeks. The Logistics company now have a facility that has increased their capacity by 33%
